Routine and painless treatment
“Root extraction, as well as tooth extraction, is a routine procedure. The risk of complications is minimal and without side-effects.”
Our team of doctors always give professional advice to our patients and raise consciousness about the importance of adequate oral hygiene, and they also provide all the necessary information about the modern aspects that dental medicine can offer.
1. WHEN AND WHY IS ROOT EXTRACTION NECESSARY?
Root extraction can be performed in our Clinic, but in certain cases, when the extraction is complicated, a patient is advised an appointment with an oral surgeon. The root of a tooth is like an anchor that holds the tooth in it position. The root is deeply anchored in the bone structure of the tooth and is its major part. Regarding its function, it can be difficult to extract it if the tooth crown is broken.
Given the fact that the rot can cause pain and inflammation, a prompt reaction is crucial in order to avoid unwanted complications. Root extraction can be done in two ways – with special instruments (pliers and levers), so-called classic way.
If this method is not possible, then a surgical method is applied. It involves a surgical incision in the mucous membrane of the jaw to get through the bone that covers the root. Once enough bone is removed, the root becomes movable and can be easily extracted with pliers. After the extraction, the mucous is sewn with surgical suture.
Root extraction is often oral and surgical procedure. Even though modern dentistry aims to preserve natural teeth as long as possible, tooth and root extractions are inevitable in certain cases. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and is completely painless.
2. WHO DO WE RECOMMEND ROOT EXTRACTION?
This kind of surgical procedure is recommended to patients whose teeth are decaying due to untreated caries. In some cases, a root can be left in the bone after simple tooth extraction, and then its parts have to be surgically removed.
Root extraction is inevitable for patients whose crown of the tooth is below the gingival line. With patients who have distorted roots, a simple tooth extraction cannot be performed.
People who have suffered mouth and teeth injuries, or other trauma, are also candidates for this type of treatment, especially if an X-ray shows that the root is broken.
Inform your dentist about the types of medications you use prior to the treatment, as well as disease you suffer from- diabetes, liver, thyroid or kidney disease, weak immune system in particular…
3. AFTER TOOTH EXTRACTION…
Even though this procedure is done under local anesthesia and is painless, there is a certain risk of bleeding and infection. In that case, antibiotics are prescribed to avoid abscess.
After extraction we recommend:
– Do not touch the wound.
– Avoid brushing the wound at least 24 hours after the extraction.
– Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours.
– Avoid rinsing the wound for 24 hours after the procedure.
You can eat normally but avoid hot food and beverages. We would recommend cold food and beverages, ice-cream or yogurt, as well as softer food. If you notice anything unusual, contact us immediately!
